Nafplio (Argolis)
Nafplio is one of the most beautiful and historic cities in Greece. It has been inhabited since ancient times and flourished during the Venetian occupation, when important fortifications such as Palamidi and Bourtzi were built. It was the first capital of the modern Greek state (1828–1834) and still retains its strong neoclassical and Venetian elements, making it a leading tourist destination in Argolida.
Argos (Argolis)
Argos is considered one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in Europe, with a history that dates back to the Neolithic era. In ancient times, it was a powerful center of the Mycenaean and Doric world, rivaling Sparta. Important monuments of the city are the ancient theater, the acropolis of Larissa and the Roman baths. Argos maintained its importance in the Byzantine and modern years, constituting to this day a living historical core of Argolida.
Ancient Epidaurus
Ancient Epidaurus was one of the most important sanctuaries of antiquity, dedicated to the god of medicine Asclepius. The world-famous ancient theater, known for its excellent acoustics, was built in the 4th century BC and is still in use today. The archaeological site is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a top cultural destination in Argolida.
Mycenae (Argolis)
Mycenae was one of the most important centers of the Mycenaean civilization (1600–1100 BC) and is associated with the legendary king Agamemnon. The fortified hill with the Lion Gate, the royal tombs and the palace testify to the power and wealth of the city in antiquity. Today, Mycenae is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most important archaeological sites in Greece.
Mystras (Lakonia)
Mystras is a well-preserved Byzantine settlement in Laconia, built in 1249 AD at the foot of Mount Taygetos. It was an important political, administrative and spiritual center of Byzantium and the seat of the Despotate of the Morea. The palaces, churches and monasteries with their exquisite frescoes capture the splendor of the last Byzantine years. Today Mystras is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most important historical destinations in the Peloponnese.
Ancient Corinth
Ancient Corinth was one of the most important cities of ancient Greece, thanks to its strategic location between the Aegean and Ionian Seas. It flourished in antiquity as a commercial and naval center, and the city was home to the Apostle Paul during Roman times. Today, the ruins of the ancient agora, the Temple of Apollo and the Archaeological Museum stand out, revealing the region's centuries-old history.
